Alaska School Counselor Association, Inc. Professional Development Conference-2009
|
| Description: |
The PDC is designed to give you the chance to network with your peers, learn more about school counseling and, in many cases, earn college credits and CEUs. Please take advantage of the information and activities offered at the PDC. To encourage and foster personal growth and professional development, AkSCA continues to provide you with documents, workshops, a quarterly newsletter and an annual conference each year. As an important resource to Alaska’s school districts in their mission to prepare students to meet high academic standards and to become productive and contributing members of society in the 21st century, the Alaska School Counseling Framework (ASCF) was developed by a group of Alaska school counselors and is presented by the Alaska School Counselor Association. The ASCF has its origins in The Comprehensive Counseling Program for Alaska Public Schools (1989) and is the fourth revision of the original. It still builds on the experiences and successes of the Alaskan counselors who developed school counseling programs from the original document. A special effort has been made to address the unique problems that itinerant and rural counselors experience in their attempts to implement a counseling program in remote areas of Alaska. The format of PDC is different than you may have experienced in the past - if you are a first timer - we welcome you!! There are still breakout sessions available for those who wish to receive training in a multitude of areas. Breakout sessions on Thursday and Friday will include: ASCA National Model, Alaska School Counseling Framework, Autism/Asperger's, Methamphetamine Awareness, Cyberbullying/Cybersafety, Stress - Hang in there, Baby! just to name a few of the many excellent offerings. 2-DAY Suicide first aid workshop (ASIST) - Offering practical training for professional and non-professional community caregivers seeking to prevent the immediate risk of suicide. Wednesday and Thursday (November 18 & 19) - LIMITED to 30 participants 2-DAY WhyTry Cert www.alaskaschoolcounselor.orgwww.alaskaschoolcounselor.org
