Description: Social Security Application Workshop Presented by: Dave Bérube and Meg Allison Zaletel from the Disability Law Center When: Monday, November 2, 2009 6:00-8:00pm Where: BP Energy Center (For a map visit: http://bit.ly/BPMAP) This workshop will give participants advice and the tools necessary to navigate the sometimes confusing process of filling out a Social Security application. This workshop is recommended for parents who have children with special needs, parents of transition age teenagers (kids that will need social security benefits as an adult), and adults wanting to apply for benefits. Description: Positive Solutions for Families: Behavioral Support for Children with Special Needs Ages Birth to Five This class does not offer certificates of completion and does not meet the OCS requirements of a "parenting class". Because of the weekly hands on "homework" assignments your child must be living with you while you attend this workshop. Because of the nature of the material presented your child must be no older than 5 years of age in order for you to be eligible for this workshop. Pre-school Level 1 is a water adjustment class for children to learn to blow bubbles, walk in chest deep water, hold breath with face submerged along with front and back floats and leg and arm movements. Pre-school Level 2 is a beginner course that teaches floating on front and back independently along with kicking and swimming across kiddy pool. Sibshops seek to provide siblings with opportunities for peer support. Peer support is provided within a lively, recreational context that emphasizes a kids’-eye-view. Sibshops are not therapy, group or otherwise, although their effect may be therapeutic for some children. Sibshops acknowledge that most brothers and sisters of people with special needs, like their parents, are doing well, despite the challenges of an illness or disability. Autism 203: Holidays
Description: Autism 203: Holidays address coping with holiday stress. This is presented by Steve Becker PhD. This course is a video teleconference class through the Seattle Children's Hospital and the University of Washington. Participants will see and hear experts discuss a variety of topics regarding autism, and interact through question and answer format following the lecture. This program may be viewed at the SESA office in Anchorage in the board room, but there is a limit of 20-25 persons. The doors will be opened at 5:15 PM. Outside of Anchorage area: • To connect via videoconferencing: Access to videoconferencing equipment, such as Polycom, and to an Internet connection (SESA uses GCI's SchoolAccess, using a router to connect to a partial T1 line) should be arranged. Many rural school districts have this type of equipment, as do some other sites. Description: Positive Solutions for Families: Behavioral Support for Children with Special Needs Ages Birth to Five This class does not offer certificates of completion and does not meet the OCS requirements of a "parenting class". Because of the weekly hands on "homework" assignments your child must be living with you while you attend this workshop. Because of the nature of the material presented your child must be no older than 5 years of age in order for you to be eligible for this workshop. Description: Program for Infants and Children (PIC) and PIC families have collaborated with Arctic Gymnastics to create an "Open Play" group for infants and toddlers who experience developmental delays and/or disabilities.
